Farm Journal and The Packer are seeking a West Coast Editor for the produce division. This person will be a key contributor to the weekly news and content of The Packer print and online news platforms and will also contribute content to the Produce Market Guide.

This key individual for The Packer, the leading publication in the fresh produce industry, will cover West Coast produce industry markets, suppliers, events, and personalities. The job requires news & feature reporting, and writing, photography, video reports, and social media contributions.

The candidate will be expected to generate story ideas, cultivate news sources, and become knowledgeable regarding industry events and people in California and West Coast.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in journalism/communications
• The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and car and be able to travel any day of the week on short day trips, in addition to longer trips by plane for events and other coverage, such as coverage of produce markets in the Northeast or industry conventions.
• The candidate should be a self-starter, coming up with story ideas on the West Coast, including major growing regions such as the San Joaquin Valley and Salinas Valley.
• The candidate should be comfortable in front of a camera and can come up with video coverage on their own.
• The candidate should feel comfortable working with wholesalers and distributors as well as visiting farms and growers.
• Minimum five years of experience in journalism, preferably with a background in print journalism;
• Strong writing, reporting and verbal skills.
