Project Manager

The Project Manager for Farm Journal Studios ensures key client projects are executed on time, within budget and within scope. This position provides internal and external project management in support of Farm Journal’s new Studios initiative that helps clients achieve two critical objectives – to make content better, and to make better content.

This essential role is ideally suited for a seasoned project manager who thrives in managing relationships and excels in a fast-paced environment while overseeing multiple projects at the same time. This position works across the entire project cycle for both Content Hub and Branded Content initiatives. Beginning with the clear definition of the scope of work and ending with a concise evaluation of the project’s ultimate execution, the Project Manager will serve as the primary interface with clients. A successful candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a creative problem-solver. This position requires outstanding interpersonal communication skills combined with exceptional organization skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Participate in client status meetings—reporting progress, identifying challenges and solutions.
  • Participate in internal Studios meetings to update status, problem solve and help establish priorities and plans.
  • Partner with Creative and Production leads to develop project plans
  • Partner with Internal Subject Matter Leads to coordinate work delivery
  • Ensure each project is set up in FJ internal systems such as Naviga, DropBox, etc…
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring implementation feasibility
  • Identify and coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors, including creative resources, FJ broadcast team, FJ data, freelance writers, etc.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop a detailed project plan and timeline to monitor and track progress
  • Constantly communicate with internal team members and external resources (as appropriate) on project needs, changes, and updates
  • Schedule all creative development, review/proof materials, secure approvals
  • Traffic/deliver creative materials per specific deadlines to FJ departments as per the project plan (including digital, print, broadcast)
  • Coordinate and deliver campaign metrics reports per the project plan
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Successfully manage the relationship with project stakeholders, who would typically include the FJ sales representative, agency partner and/or client contact(s)
  • Perform risk management to minimize project obstacles or delays
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work independently and complete tasks under time pressure

Education/Skills/Professional Experience
These qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Proven working experience in project management
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a project manager or similar position
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks on a regular basis
  • Agriculture or media company background or experience preferred
