Market Analyst, Pro Farmer

Pro Farmer is the leading provided or commodity market analysis and advice to Farmers. The Market Analyst monitors agriculture industry news and events, especially market-sensitive news to shape Pro Farmer’s market analysis and advice. This position will research and analyze current and historical agriculture market news and statistics that drive content for the weekly newsletter, daily electronic services, the Quarterly Grain Report, the Pro Farmer website and special reports/projects.  Experience writing commodity market commentary related to corn/soybean/wheat/livestock markets a major plus and strongly preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Research and develop Pro Farmer advice and risk management for the grain, livestock and cotton markets
  • Research and analyze market-driven ag news, statistics and trends
  • Monitor various electronic news/newswire feeds daily for pertinent market news
  • Write the analysis pages of Pro Farmer newsletter. Contribute news/analysis to daily electronic services and the Pro Farmer website
  • Help present the commodity outlook at Pro Farmer seminars and webinars
  • Assist with the coordination and leadership of the Pro Farmer Crop Tour

Education/Skills/Professional Experience
These qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Ag Business, Ag Economics, Journalism, English or Communications
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in ag economics or ag journalism
  • Strong analytical/research skills
  • Computer skills in publishing software (InDesign preferred) and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Excel)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Background in farm-based agriculture is desired
